40 Great Bands

Just a few minutes ago I stumbled across a blog entry that complained about the lack of great music being created these days. And, frankly, it made me a little frustrated because I just really fundementally disagree with it.

Not to be argumentative or anything, but I think that this is a great time for music! But, instead of going off on a rant of my own, I'm just going to present a list of 40 bands. 40 bands that I've discovered in the last three or so years. They my not all be the "next big thing," but at one time or another they either struck me as genius, or transendent, or unique, or just moved me.

40 Great Bands (in roughly alphabetical order):
Air, Arcade Fire, Art Brut, Beirut, Broken Social Scene, Built To Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Death Cab For Cutie, Destroyer, Feist, Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz, Hot Chip, Kanye West, Modest Mouse, Mos Def, Neko Case, New Pornographers, Northern State, Portastatic, The Postal Service, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Raconteurs, Ratatat, The Raveonettes, Ryan Adams, Saturday Looks Good To Me, Tegan and Sara, The Divorce, The Go! Team, The Gossip, The Shins, The Streets, The Strokes, The Walkmen, White Stripes, Wilco, Wolf Parade, The Wrens, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Zero 7.

...actually, that might have been 41 bands. Anyhow, that's not the point. And ranting about people ranting isn't really the point either.

The point is, there's good music out there. Great music in fact. Possibly genius music. Classic music. You just have to look for it. Grousing about music might be fulfilling. But, enjoying it is even better.

OK, back to listening to Bossa Nova music.
